The President of the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly to visit Korea

1. The President of the 62nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly Mr. Srgjan Kerim will visit Korea from August 24 to 26 at the invitation of Prime Minister Han Seung-soo. During his visit, Mr. Kerim will pay a courtesy call on President Lee Myung-bak, have talks with Minister Yu Myung-hwan over luncheon, and deliver a lecture at Korea University.

2. Mr. Kerim and the officials of the Korean government will exchange views on a wide range of international issues such as climate change, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), food and energy crises and the UN reform. He will also discuss the regional political landscape in Northeast Asia such as the inter-Korean relations.

3. It has been four years since the President of the UN General Assembly paid a visit to Korea. The latest visit was by Mr. Jean Ping in 2004, the President of the 59th Session of the UN General Assembly. It is expected that Mr. Kerim's forthcoming visit will serve as an opportunity to further promote the cooperative ties between Korea and the UN.
