Honorable Prime Minister Mahathir bin Mohamad(마하티르 빈 모하마드),
Distinguished participants,Ladies and gentlemen, Welcome to Korea.
I am delighted to speak to you tonight on this auspicious occasion of Global Korea 2011.

Ladies and gentlemen,
Tonight, we have gathered under the theme .
I am pleased to note that East Asia is indeed becoming the center of the global economy in the 21st century.

For the past three decades,
the East Asian economy has been growing at a remarkable pace of an annual 7.4%.

Korea, China, and Japan take up 18.6% of global GDP and 47% of global foreign reserve.
East Asia claimed 26.3% in the global trade market in 2009 from a mere 9.6% in 1960.

The Asian Development Bank Institute(ADBI) predicts that "East Asia may replace the United States
as the world's largest economic bloc by 2020", accentuated by the fact that Korea, China, and Japan
already have FTAs with ASEAN.

Multilateral cooperation within the region has also gained momentum. The ASEAN+3 meeting convenes
every year. The Korea, Japan, and China Trilateral Summit is held annually. However, road blocks still
remain on the course towards creating an East Asian community.

East Asia is home to some of the oldest countries in the world. They have pride in their long history and are
strong patriots, making it difficult to establish a sense of common regional belonging.

If East Asia is to overcome the obstacles and write a new history of coexistence and mutual development,
a mood of reconciliation and cooperation should first be established. When we work together in harmony,
we can lay a firm foundation for mutual prosperity in East Asia.

Ladies and gentlemen,
Korea is most committed to taking a leading role in inducing regional cooperation and friendly conciliation.
Korea has already proved itself as an effective bridge between the advanced and emerging nations
during last year's G20 Seoul Summit. No other country is better prepared to bridge our neighbors in East Asia.

You may all know that North Korea's recent aggressions have escalated tensions on the Korean peninsula
and in the region.

While it is important for the world to work together through frameworks such as the Six-Party Talks,
what is more important is the dedication of the North and the South, how hard we are willing to work
to improve the situation. Korea will continue to make efforts to engage North Korea towards a path of
peace and coexistence with patience. Korea will also increase its ODA to assume a more active role
as an honorable member in the world.

Ladies and gentlemen,
East Asia is a region of unlimited potential. When we come together, East Asia can become a true leader
of the global economy. I hope that today will embark us on a path of solidarity and a brighter future in
East Asia.

Once again, I welcome you to tonight's dinner on the eve of Global Korea 2011, and especially to our
foreign guests, I wish you all the best during your brief stay in Korea.

Please join me in proposing a toast for the success of Global Korea 2011,
and the health and success of everyone here.

Cheers!
